All rest and no work is a bassets idea of heaven. Fortnum has perfected the art of doing nothing as you can see here. With the main festivities over there was nothing for it today. Back to work at Domestic Executive HQ. There’s too much to be done to be lounging around reading books and scoffing chocolates!
Yes it was back to outdoor chores. I have to say that the star of the show is my father-in-law who has taken it as a personal challenge to complete the thistle harvest. He even snuck off for a short while yesterday to get his fix of forking out the pesky blighters.
Back in November here’s how big the problem was. You can read about my early attempts here.
With reinforcements much progress was made. See how much here.
However with the continued efforts of my father-in-law our thistle patch has now gone. Yes we still have thistles but not the patch we once had. There is no doubt that more work is needed but for now it’s been a battle won.
It’s a truly awesome sight. I am ever so grateful that they are gone. The adage about a problem shared…..!
Credit where credit is due. This has been a massive effort by one man. Hasn’t he done well.
MT has been inspecting progress and surveying all the grass strimming he has to do!
But at least it’s mainly grass now. Not thistles. That’s a huge relief.
The bassets are impressed with the efforts too.
And in case you think I’ve been leaving the hard work to others. Don’t worry. I had the hardest job today.
Yes indeed, mowing the grass requires concentration and tricky manouvering.
Not to mention some high speed cornering.
Yes, I think I’ve had the toughest of jobs today! And there is plenty more where that comes from. But tomorrow is another day. Now it’s time to get back to resting and eating chocolates!
Can you send your Father-in-law around to do my garden when he gets back to the UK? I’ve got a few brambles lurking that need decimating. I bet you’re relieved to see the end of those thistles. It’s made such a difference. It’s a bright and frosty morning here but I’m determined to get some gardening in before school starts again on the 5th Jan.
Ruta, I think my father-in-law has developed an unnatural obsession about clearning these thistles. Whilst I’m pleased they are gone I am worried he might never be the same again about gardening. He’s eyeing up the rest of the gorse now! JT
Aargh! I forgot to check the name box. It was me again!
Just one question – was Sheila on tea duty?
Hi June – yes and no! Apparently there were promises made about timely delivery which seemed to be missed. She is enjoying the rest. And, so much better than when she first arrived. J x
I must must must get round and cut your ‘lawn’. That is way to much fun to be a chore! x
Certainly beats pushing! JT x
