I took this picture last weekend to reassure myself that I do indeed have a kitchen garden even though I’ve hardly seen it close up in recent weeks. What with the rain and winds I’ve just had to cross my fingers that it will survive, although I’ve had to make the occasional dash to reinforce the broad bean support canes Unsurprisingly everything is taking a battering. The only thing that seems to have been improved by the torrential rain are the weeds.
Even without the dreadful weather there have been rather too many distractions from the garden.  Work has been pretty full on with the added pressure of putting together a proposal for a large scale assignment. I hate pitching for work but it’s an essential part of being self employed and proposals always seem to day days, rather than hours to pull together since there is no such thing as a standard client so every proposal is crafted to fit their needs. Gone are the days where you simply did a find and replace on a “standard” proposal and stuck it in the mail. Now it’s all customised and hours spent fine tuning that unique proposition.  It’s always a blessed relief when the proposal is handed in and you can go back to work.
Aside from work there’s been a fair amount of fiddling with new technology. Not to mention trying to fix my blog after an upgrade. Also, I finally succumbed to the lure of an iPhone when the IRD agreed to refund some tax to me. It’s sheer simplicity and multitude of applications makes it less of a phone and more of a personal control centre. Just think NASA control for life and you’d get a good idea of what it can do. There is absolutely no excuse for me to ever to forget stuff now, as long as I remember to punch in that important piece of information into my iPhone as I think of it. I have high hopes to have life re-configured to peak efficiency in no time.
Such a shame it doesn’t do the weeding though!
Ive actually found I really don’t use my iPhone all that much now. I guess the novelty has worn off, along with the desire to download as many apps as humanly possible. And while i do use it for jotting down ideas and lists of things to do – I then almost always forget to check what I wrote later on.
I’d probably use it a lot more if it made my coffee for me 🙂

Your raised beds and growing frames look amazing. We should organise a garden blog tour one day when our gardens are awash with salad greens, giant beans and tomatoes. Have you grown bulb fennel? It’s easy to grow from seed, and it seem to thrive in the wind and rain.
Now that’s an idea and an incentive to get organised!
