Yup, it’s been raining again. A full blown windy and wet Wellington storm blew in today and here’s the proof! We had 66.5mm today and most of it arriving at a horizontal angle. If you’re really keen you can keep tabs on our weather here.
Luckily we got the bassets out for their daily constitutional walk before the rain arrived. The poor chickens didn’t fair that well as the wind was blowing from the north and bringing the wet and wind right into their house.
At least the rain is good for the new lawn growth. Also, it’s brought out a few more flowers in the garden. The brightest point is our first day lilly of the year which looks quite the sunshine we need when the day looks so grey and overcast.
The ornamental sage is starting to bloom too.
It’s starting to look very blue in the front bed under my office window.
And the choisya has come out to play too!
The trees are continuing to flourish but the beautiful spring blossom has now gone. Shame really as it is so pretty. The same goes for the rhododendrons which have had all their leaves blown off in the gales.
I’m still excited by what’s happening in the garden and starting to feel the itch to tinker with things. But, I’ve resolved myself to see the planting through for a full year before we start making any changes to the plan so ably put together by Jamie our landscape designer. So far he’s brought his choice of plants has worked well so lets see how it goes.
It’s so exciting when the first flowers appear, each day a new surprise. It sounds sensible to have a local expert plan your first planting as there must be many unfamiliar plants to choose from and a new range of pests to be considered.
Happy Gardening – when you can get outside.
Isn’t it a miss match of weather at the moment, Michael keeps saying ‘well it is spring’ but its still odd. One day blazing at 28 degrees (we had the pool out) and today northerly blasts and that really annoying rain that you cnt hide from that blows at you sideways. Of course the plants are loving it though…oh and probably those ducks you have too!! xx
