A little like the finishing post, the final jewel in the front garden crown is almost in place. MT is plotting municipal planting schemes for the traffic island. I am thinking more rambling roses and lots of mulch. The bassets are thinking – new play pen!
If bright pink is a good rose colour for you I can recommend ‘Morning Jewel’ It is actually a climber but in my garden it is a manageable shrub. The reason that I suggest it is that even though mine is in poor soil and the most exposed position in the garden the roses stay on despite all the gales that blow straight down the valley on it . The colour is a bit bright and it doesn’t have much scent, a big minus in my view but I don’t regret having it in the garden. I had great fun selecting roses for the garden but the old english shrub roses that I planted have not flourished and are small even after about 10 years. I planted a Rambling Rector in a row of trees but I am still waiting for that to take off – it comes with a warning not to plant it unless you have plenty of room.
