It was only when I saw the patchwork of green fields through the plane window that the reality of this trip to the homeland hit me. Â There is nothing quite like an English Landscape to warm your soul. Â Whilst New Zealand is made of rugged wilderness here in England it’s the cultivated landscapes that makes it an elegant place to be. Â Sure there is a wild beauty in parts of the British Isles but for me I’m a sucker for the rolling countryside, quaint villages and historic buildings. Â Perhaps I’m just a traditionalist at heart.
It’s the timeless quality of England’s landscape I love.
I’m equally smitten with the cultivated gardens. Â Formal gardens are my favourite rather than the blousey English Cottage gardens.
I dream that one day our garden at home will grown up to have a spot of formal Englishness about it with a dash of edgy kiwi-ness to soften the edges.
