As the evening sun danced across the kitchen garden I was stuck by how close it has come towards the romantic idea I had in my head. A magical place which would not just produce food but be a place of solace. Although I still feel very much in the experimentation... After all the blood, sweat and tears to clear up and organise the barn it’s a total pleasure to be in there. Gone are the days when I take one step in the door and dump stuff wherever there was a space. Now everything has it’s “proper”... Understanding the ins and outs of growing food is seeming less daunting every day. There are still plenty of surprises, lessons to learn and mistakes to put down to bitter experience but I don’t feel so overwhelmed. Except when it comes to growing fruit. ... Slowly but surely we’re building up the courage to plant a broader range of colourful plants in the garden. For the first time ever I planted sweet peas and after weeks of rambling up their wigwams they are finally starting to burst into colourful flowers. No... The last two weeks have thrown wild extremes of weather at us – wind (read that as howling gales), rain (read that as downpours) and sun (read as, well that round heat generator in the sky). Nothing new you might think for someone living in the Wellington...
