Nothing like an early morning chilly tickle on a basset’s undercarriage to wake them up. Mason bounced around in the frosty grass like he’s never seen the white stuff before. I wondered how he might behave if we ever had a full-blown snow storm. It was fun watching them frolic and sniff even if my own feet and fingers were starting to freeze.
Despite the excitement of the bassets, our mission was to make a close inspection of the greenhouse to see how frosted up it might be. Certainly on the outside there was plenty of ice but inside my lettuces and citrus trees were snug and warm basking in the dazzling reflective light. Good to know that our food crops should be safe and sound with an average winter temperatures.
For all the basset frolics it didn’t take the hounds long to follow me back into the warm of the house. After all that running around they needed an extra snooze!
Not sure Little Basset appreciated the on camera moment.
Full throttle bassets on the run!
The frost didn’t last that long and already the sun had melted the bassets favourite vantage point for checking out invaders to their land.
I love how their ears flap around when they run! We had so much frost in Martinborough the last week that there was a sheet of ice on the car. Brrrr. Of course, this is nothing compared to the snow-filled winters I knew in Michigan, Minnesota, and Chicago. NZ is making me soft!
Mason is such a grump, he really despises that camera doesn’t he? Perhaps he thinks should be spending your time doing something more worthwhile like fetching him some biscuits and tea, or warming his favorite blanket in the dryer?
The boys look great, hope your spring comes early!!
