Since being back to work it’s been full on. My wheels have been spinning like crazy but today they slowed enough to get traction on being a domestic executive again. It was such a pleasure at 11am to switch off the computer, close the office door and head to the forest for some fun with the bassets. Fortnum and Mason could hardly believe their luck.
We walked one of our favourite walks and for once we dawdled. I took some photographs, the bassets sniffed and every now and then we wandered on. Even the long slog up the hill didn’t seem quite so bad as it does when I’m in a hurry. I was happy settling for Fortnum speed for once.
As we turned for home the bassets picked up their pace and started to play. Fortnum starts barking for everyone to run and at every downward stretch they place chase with Little Basset outpacing and outwitting Big Basset every time. But he doesn’t care he just loves to run.
Since none of the sticks lying on the ground were suitable for a pair of bassets they stole my walking stick and set off together. It’s one of the funniest things to see my bassets running in tandem. For a short while they match each other with equal pace and then Little Basset gets all competitive and wants to steal the stick away for himself and the brotherly teamwork falls apart and chaos reigns. But for those few minutes it’s unbridled pleasure.
After all the excitement on the walk the bassets then resume their normal week day working out position snoozing whilst I headed off to the kitchen garden for a spot of backyard farming. How I love working from home days.
I just love these two shots, they’re so cooky!!! What funny, funny boys you have. With all that loose skin, ears and other dangly bits flying all over the place I imagine you had the giggles all the way home. The 1st picture really captures their different personalities.
