For a long time our bassets used to be hounds that were seen and not heard.  That all changed the day that MT turned into Dolittle Esq and made them believe that he could talk their language.  They will now regularly howl in unison and would rather shout out for us believing that we can understand their call.  I can regularly be down the bottom of the garden to hear from the house two hounds howling for me and completely put out when I don’t howl back.  The call of the hound works equally well in the middle of the night when the usual low level squeak isn’t quite loud enough to wake me from my peaceful slumber and get my attention. Today the peace and quiet of Kaitoke was broken as the boys decided to break into hound song.
