After all the due care and attention that I gave the bassets last week, they are now fully recovered and back to their usual high jinx. Except this time there’s been a twist in the plot.
Yes, this charming looking little basset busy sniffing in the early morning sun with that gorgeous butter wouldn’t melt in my mouth sort of look, has betrayed me. It was betrayal of the worst kind and I’m not sure I’m ever going to forgive him.
It irkes me still after several hours and whilst I now have had a taste of the medicine dished out to MT all the time. As far as I’m concerned it’s a betrayal too far this time.
See this chap – he’s our favourite big basset and wouldn’t know how to betray anyone. It’s just not in his nature. This is the gentle giant of the basset world here at Domestic Executive HQ. He is being very serious here checking out what’s been happening on his estate.
I do know he is rather hoping we might cut the grass sometime soon as it interferes with his sniffing routine. All that dew gets stuck to his face.
You see a basset gets right down for sniffing and dew can get attached to one’s face.
Just look how wet his ears are. He is deep in thought – I doubt he is thinking of betraying me though.
No this chap just doodles around minding his own business.
Whereas this little basset has other things on his mind.
Don’t be fooled by that cuteness. That closeness to the ground. All those cheeky little rolls of skin that make him look cuddly and loveable.
No this basset has other things on his mind.
He’s a dog on a mission.
See that paw – the one he throws out front like he’s strutting. That paw was placed in a rather uncomfortable position in my lap last night. Now that is not unusual in itself as a basset has to make himself comfortable. But that paw landed in an uncomfortable place and before it could be reorganise for a basset cuddle this paw was removed.
In fact the whole basset removed himself. He removed himself to someone else’s lap. Bold as brass. He flopped down and snuggled up to a belly cushion. Without even a glance back. That basset has betrayed me by changing his mind about cuddling up with me for his evening snooze.
I was left without a basset as Fortnum likes to curl up in a tight ball by himself.
The humiliation that the leader of the pack has been substituted for the leaders husband. But I have that basset’s card marked. Just he try and come and put that paw in a painful place again whilst seeking to retake his usual snoozing spot in my lap.
I think I might just betray him and see how he likes it. Or maybe I’ll just say hi favourite little basset – good to see you again, I think you got lost in a detour last night!
my basset was dlways doing that to me. She would cuddle with my sister, cuddle with my brother-in- law, cuddle with my best friend, cuddle with my boyfriend. But with me? NO, never!! Not in 11 years, With the exception of very cold weather, then she may get under the blankets on the bed to get warm. It used to irk me to no end, but that was just her. And I cuddled her anyway wether she liked it or not 😉 LOL
Don’t worry, he’ll be back!!
