The maori word Koru means new beginnings. I love the way that the fern koru unfurls to unleashes new growth, new life and new strength to nature. This is a notion I’m going to embrace as we herald in the New Year.
In years gone by I’ve rather sauntered into the year thinking let positive thoughts for what time might bring. It’s this easy come see what happens attitude that often leaves me lagging behind in what I really want to achieve. I’m bringing back a bit more results focus so 2010 is going to have to be more organised if I’m to maintain that elusive Domestic Executive balance.
In the two years I have officially been a Domestic Executive I’ve muddled along mostly coping with my high achieving ways. There is no doubt though the focus has been on my business but now I feel more established I can start to be more confident about choosing the work I do. My work motto this for 2010 is going to be value not volume.
Last year I’ve found myself many times overloaded and I don’t function well under such pressure. I don’t mind a few deadlines to get the energy flowing but if I’m going to put myself under pressure I’d rather it have a more personal benefit that I can more fully appreciate. I’ve not fine tuned my goals for 2010 but they are in the broad areas of:
- Domestic – get backyard pantry stocked and experiment with keeping other livestock, bake my way through Treasury of New Zealand Baking (note to Sarah A/mother in law: we can bake along together!)
- Personal – start to learn from other photographers and publish my photo projects, get involved with local transition town initiative, keep a daily journal, take a cooking class/course
- Professional – expand my high value client base, establish new business coaching programme for coaches, create new IP for coaching programmes.
I want 2010 to be about lots of new growth and strength. This means ticking the boxes as I go isn’t going cut the mustard. One consequence of all this is that I’m going to change the way I blog too - maybe less will be more? Who knows what 2010 will bring!
I didn’t know ‘koru’ means new beginnings, but I’ve always loved those ferns. Best of luck to you in your goals in 2010. You’re an inspiration!
I wish you all the best for 2010. I enjoy your adventures and look forward to reading your blog this year. After looking at your amazing photos I have decide to try and take a photograph of something every day this year. Started with my Christmas tree last night (new years day) and the snow first thing this morning. Have a wonderful year.
NEmum sez good luck for 2010 to you both heres hoping all your plans come to fruition but remember some r&r time should be timetabled in.
Love your thoughts and plans for 2010. Mine are to make more time for ourselves and to keep more in touch with friends. So whilst you blog less, hopefully I’ll comment more. Happy New Year.
