The bassets are back on form and back into routine.  That’s more than can be said for me.  I think there may have been too much talking yesterday or heaven forbid kennel cough has crossed to humans.

I work up this morning with very little voice.  A sore throat.  And that all over feeling that you’d rather not have.

Great I thought.  A day I was planning to play hooky for the afternoon and I’m feeling rubbish.  It’s like going on holiday and getting sick.

Despite my ailments the sun came out and the temperature reached  a barmy 18 degrees.  No excuse really not to reinstate a basset walk.

Bassets sniffing

Since its been 10 days since they were allowed out it took a few seconds for them to realise that yes they were back in their favourite playground down in tunnel gully.  There was no stopping them.  Mason was of course leading the way.  Fortnum like to take his time with his initial sniffing – you never know what you might miss.

Mason off first

But big basset was soon in his stride.  He was off for some exploring.

Big basset

Before you know it this is all I could capture of him.

Basset rear

Yes, he was off into the undergrowth.  Literally.  It took quite a lot of encouragement to get him out from the gorse. Only after he’d sniffed every inch along the way.

Fortnum exploring

Mason wasn’t hanging around either although he prefers wide open spaces to hoon around.

Mason's fun

Here’s big basset just before he set off on one of his sprinting moments.

Big basset

It’s such a shame that bassets running are not attractive – too many things to wobbling around to spoil their looks.

Fortnum running

Fortnum has a special line in daft faces though.  He has real problems keeping his face in order.

Big Basset silly face

But you’ve just got to love the bassets when they are out on a walk.  It’s freedom.  New places to roam.  The opportunity to stroll or run. Or simply just to lie down in the sun.

Bassets taking it easy

Little basset was in a particularly reflective mood today.

Little basset

I can’t blame him.  It’s been a while since they’ve enjoyed the sun and a walk. I’m sure he’s just savouring the moment in case it doesn’t come along in a hurry.

The great thing about wearing the bassets out on a walk is that they will come back and collapse for a good long snooze.  Just as well as that was about all I could manage this afternoon too.

Another southerly is blowing through this weekend – perfect weather to hunker down under the duvet with a lemsip and a husband to wait on me hand and foot!
